My name is Emily and I know I have a very popular name! In all the schools I went to I always had at least one other Emily which I found very annoying.

Gwendolyn's my (full) name and I love having it. First of all, its meaning is white waved, white browed, white ring which translates to in order; beautiful, smart and kind in Welsh. Also, the whole name roughly translates to moon goddess. I've been teased a couple times for having the name but the kids can never come up with anything clever, all they do is pronounce every syllable which shows their limited cleverness. Another great thing is people never confuse me for someone else, unlike the Emily's and Rachel's who might be called; "wait you mean acne Emily or pretty Emily?" Finally, Gwendolyn could have a lot of nicknames like; Gwen, Wendy, Lynn or Dolly. Personally, I like my nickname the best for it (Gwen) which is easy to remember, spell and pronounce.

I grew up with a very uncommon name, so uncommon in fact, I've never met another! It doesn't seem rare for schools, lakes or towns but for a young girl it was rare enough to be tortured for it!!! The name my father, who by the way left when I was two{Thanks for nothin' PAH!} so graciously bestowed upon me was....Wenona Day! NOT Y-Nona but Weh-nona.
The giggles were like echos off the Hoover Dam when over the intercom a woman's voice, which was piercing as a ice pick to the gut, asked for WE-ona or even still today many, many people just can't pull it out of their hats to say WEH-Nona NOT YYYYY-No-NAH!
**Parents, PLEASE think about the ease of pronounciation for your child's sake...we all know how cruel kids can be!!!!!! And YES, I STILL HATE MY NAME!!!!!
